Jennifer D'Attilio, M.S., CCC-SLP

Director, Speech and Language Services (Monterey and Santa Cruz)

Jennifer D'Attilio, M.S., CCC-SLP has served as the Director of Speech and Language Services at Central Coast Language and Learning since the inception of the company in 2003 and previously as the Clinical Coordinator of the Speech Pathology Department at Natividad Medical Center where she facilitated the first neurodevelopmental team in the NICU. This experience allowed her expertise in pediatric feeding and swallowing for pre-mature and at-risk infants who suffer from feeding disorders. She is certified in SOFFI®:  Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants, an integrated approach to supporting oral feeding in preterm and in infants who have complex medical issues, both in the NICU and in the early intervention setting, Feeders and Growers® approach to baby led weaning, and extensive training in the newest techniques to support families facing feeding challenges. She now brings her feeding expertise to new mothers struggling with breast feeding and bottle feeding, and supporting families with high-risk infants dealing with complex feeding disorders working with the entire feeding team to support family goals. She also has a passion for voice treatment and specifically in voice treatment for patients with Parkinson's disease. After her father faced voice changes after battling Parkinson's disease, Jennifer founded the first local Speak Out!® and LOUD Crowd® group in the Monterey area. This group therapy program continues to help those in her community access their intentional voices. She continues to treat adults suffering from voice disorders, aphasia, dysphagia, memory deficits and communication difficulties. She is an instructor for San Jose State University's Department of Speech and Language Pathology for pediatric feeding and swallowing, supervises graduate students and is passionate about mentorship for clinical fellowships. Jennifer has provided local and national trainings at several ASHA conventions, CSHA conventions, and local organizations on best practices in early intervention, private practice issues, feeding and swallowing, as well as parent training and coaching. Her passion remains in bringing the highest quality services to the community through leadership of a dynamic team of professionals

Katelin Carollo, M.S., CCC-SLP

Katelin is a Santa Cruz native and currently enjoys living in the Aptos hills. She received her bachelor's degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University and graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in Communication Disorders from Emerson College. She enjoys working with people of all ages with communication and swallowing disorders and has gained experience through a variety of settings including schools, private practices, long-term care, and inpatient neuro-rehabilitative facilities. Katelin is bilingual in English and Spanish and strives to provide culturally competent, patient-and family-centered care to ensure every step of the therapeutic process is collaborative and beneficial for all members. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two Mini Australian Shepherds, hiking, sailing, and traveling.

Maria Costa, M.S., CCC-SLP

Maria is a native of Monterey, Calif. She graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of the Pacific. She is a board-certified member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the California Speech-Language-Hearing-Association. She has received introductory training in Positive Behavior and the Orton-Gillingham Approach for literacy. Maria has been with the Central Coast Language and Learning Center since completing her clinical fellowship. She currently works as a full-time therapist in addition to fostering the growth of SLP graduate students and SLPAs by lending her wisdom and knowledge in a supervisory capacity. Although Maria has some experience working in public schools, acute rehabilitation, and post-acute care, the vast majority of her experience lies in the private clinic setting. Her true passion is in providing remote, or in person services to the pediatric population with particular emphasis on school-age children. Maria believes in taking a semi structured, play-based approach to speech and language development to make learning fun, motivating, and meaningful. Areas of interest include speech sound disorders, phonological/phonemic awareness, and language-based learning disabilities.

Hilina Gessesse, SLPA

Hilina started her career as a Speech and Language Therapy aide and received an advanced degree program in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She went on completing her fieldwork at Central Coast Language and Learning Center (CCLLC) where she currently works full-time as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant (SPLA). Her undergraduate clinical year program and fieldwork experience in school, hospital and home health care settings have provided her with the essential clinical skills that she needs to advance as a SPLA. Hilina also worked as a SLP in an international not-for profit organization on Cleft Lip and Palate unit. She gained knowledge and experience in developing individualized short-term therapy sessions and trainings based on clients' immediate social and academic needs. She has been volunteering in building Speech and Language Pathology programs in areas where there are limited awareness and resources. Hilina has a true passion for children and strongly finds the profession to be very fulfilling.

Meadow Gibbons, M.S., CCC-SLP

Meadow is a California native and has been in Santa Cruz since the late '90s. She began her journey toward becoming a Speech Language Pathologist after her daughter was diagnosed with a hearing impairment as an infant. Meadow received her undergraduate degree in sociology at UC Santa Cruz and later CSU Northridge where she earned her Master of Science in Communicative Disorders and Sciences. Through her work in a range of settings, including private practice, private group clinic, home healthcare and skilled nursing, Meadow gained experience assisting people with their speech, language, cognitive, social, and swallowing challenges. She strives to create a safe and welcoming space in which all clients can work to achieve their goals. Meadow spends her free time dancing, hiking, reading and cooking, and is grateful for a loving community of family and friends.

Leah Kohl, M.S., CCC-SLP

Leah is an East Coast native, who received her B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Penn State University and her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from Loyola University Maryland. Leah is certified by the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association and throughout her career has gained speech and language treatment and team leadership experience in a variety of settings, including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing and long-term care, schools, and clinic-based settings. Along with treatment, Leah has had the privilege of supervising SLPAs, working with students, and acting as a family educator. Leah's passion in the field of Speech Language Pathology spans many different diagnoses and ages, from early intervention to dementia care and swallowing disorders. Leah enjoys incorporating families into the plan of care to generalize function to all aspects of life and to empower caregivers to continue the progress made in therapy in the home environment. In her spare time, Leah loves hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband and family. 

Deborah Kolton, M.S., CCC-SLP

Deborah became a Speech Language Pathologist after going through speech therapy herself and later seeing positive interactions between an SLP and occupational therapy services for a family friend. She wanted to be part of a team that helped others with speech and language difficulties. Deborah graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and spent two years as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant before obtaining her Masters in Speech Pathology from Pacific University. She has worked in both clinical and school settings with a primary focus on helping individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Deborah has advanced SLP training in TalkTools Feeding First and myofunctional training by Linda D'Onofrio. Deborah is an English-Spanish bilingual and enjoys spending her free time with friends, baking and cooking new recipes, and spending time with her dog Blue. 

Sarah Krein, M.A., CCC-SLP

Sarah lived her whole life in New Mexico and graduated with honors at New Mexico State University in the field of Communication Disorders. She found a passion for treating bilingual children through her experience working at an early intervention clinic where most of the population spoke both English and Spanish. She has gained experience working with children and adults with a variety of disorders at her university clinic. Her experience working with children from birth to three years old has influenced her special interest in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders. Her favorite thing about working as a teletherapist is the ability to glimpse into the lives of the family and provide specialized and detailed strategies and treatment solutions that apply to each family. Coaching and empowering parents is her favorite part of being a SLP. In her spare time, Sarah likes to read, paint, and spend time with her husband.

Tiffany Mason, M.A., CCC-SLP

Tiffany is a native of New Jersey. She received a bachelor's degree from New York University in Speech Language Pathology and graduated with honors with a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Kean University. She is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and holds state licenses in Virginia and California. She is also certified in the PROMPT treatment method for those with motor speech disorders like apraxia or dysarthria. Throughout her career, she has gained experience in a variety of settings with populations spanning from infant to adult. Most recently, she has provided services to children severely impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder and utilized an interdisciplinary approach to best serve this population. Her areas of interest include language-based learning disabilities, speech sound disorders, and facilitating social-pragmatic development, most specifically with pediatric populations. She practices based on the quote by Lev Vygotsky, " A child's greatest achievements are possible in play." She sees clients exclusively through teletherapy, or virtual sessions.

Brenda Ongley, M.S., CCC-SLP

Speech Language Pathologist (Telehealth only)

Brenda graduated summa cum laude with a dual master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Florida State University in 2000. She is a board-certified member of the American Speech Language Hearing Association and holds licenses in the states of Colorado and California. Brenda has worked for school districts in both states as well as providing speech and language services in private clinics. During those experiences she has realized her greatest passion is for working with children on the Autism Spectrum and teaching children to communicate to the best of their ability in all environments. A strong believer in teamwork for the most efficacious treatment available, she knows the importance of family members involvement to create the greatest outcomes for all children. Her areas of interests include working with pediatric populations on auditory processing, pragmatic language disorders and autism. She is currently compiling a catalog of useful strategies to empower parents, school staff and neurotypical children to interact and communicate with kids with autism. Interests outside providing therapy to children include traveling extensively to other countries and learning new ways to communicate with people of many and diverse languages.

Carrie Palsma, M.A., CCC-SLP

Carrie is a SLP with more than 30 years of experience working with children in the public schools. She obtained both her bachelor's and master's degree from CSU-Northridge. She has advocated and provided speech/language therapy for students who exhibited difficulties in the areas of articulation, language, voice and fluency. She collaborated and consulted with parents and classroom teachers in the management of speech/language disorders. She has supervised undergraduates, interns, paraprofessionals and volunteers. Carrie also served as President of the Monterey County Speech Language Hearing Association for several years and is a lifetime member of the American Speech Hearing Association. She has presented classes at the Monterey County Office of Education in therapy techniques, as well as in the school system. Carrie aims to help children know not only how to communicate but why communication is important. She wants them to be clearly understood, be able to form bonds between people, and become contributing members of their community. Carrie recently retired and will be working part time for CCLLC. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and seeing the country and meeting new people.

Lauren Sekas, M.S., CCC-SLP

Lauren is a native of North Carolina where she received her master's degree in Speech- Language Pathology from Appalachian State University. She is a member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and holds licenses in North Carolina and California. Throughout her practice as a clinician, Lauren has gained experience in a variety of settings serving a range of clients, from toddlers to geriatrics. Lauren discovered a fondness for early intervention language therapy as well as a passion for working with speech-sound disorders, phonology and social-pragmatic language development in school-age children. Lauren loves getting to know her clients and having the opportunity to use her creativity to tailor sessions to a client's needs so it is enjoyable and constructive. One of her favorite parts of being an SLP is the feeling she gets to share with a client when they overcome a previously challenging communication task, or display a new communication/language skill. When Lauren isn't busy being a SLP, she enjoys reading, exercising, cooking, hiking, and playing with her nieces and nephews.

Doris Smith, M.A., CCC-SLP

Doris graduated with a master's degree from Long Beach State University with a major in Communicative Disorders (Speech Therapy).  Her training involved regular elementary schools with special education classes (aphasia), Long Beach VA Hospital with stroke patients and a specialized intense preschool clinical training program at Long Beach State, which included parents, teachers and occupational therapists. She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and a California Licensed Speech Therapist. Doris has had varied experience with children from infants, pre-schoolers to High School.  She began her career in L.A. City Schools where she specialized in assessing, diagnosing and treating infants and preschoolers in a team approach with Physical Therapists, Psychologists, Educators and Parents.  She also worked with children who were diagnosed with Autism, Developmentally Delayed and ADHD.  Treatment included knowledge of receptive/expressive language disorders, pragmatic disorders, articulation, voice and fluency disorders.  She then moved to Monterey where she began working at Monterey County Schools in the Infant, Pre-school and Head Start Programs.  She then retired and began working part-time for Central Coast Language & Learning Center specializing in the younger populations.

Kyleigh Stout, M.S., CCC-SLP

Kyleigh received her bachelor's degree in Speech Language & Hearing Sciences from University of Arizona, and her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from California State University East Bay. Kyleigh has worked with individuals across the lifespan in a variety of settings including her university clinic, elementary schools, private practices, and home health. In addition to her clinical experiences, Kyleigh has participated as an undergraduate research assistant at University of Arizona's Voice Lab and volunteered in an Elder Rehabilitation Program for individuals with Alzheimer's. Kyleigh has a special interest in articulation and phonological disorders, pediatric feeding and swallowing, and aphasia. In her spare time, Kyleigh enjoys running, and spending time with friends and family.

Katelyn Malloy, M.S., CF-SLP

Kate is a native of the East Coast, a proud military spouse, and a mother of two boys. Before becoming a speech language pathologist, she worked as a middle school teacher for seven years. She received her master's degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University. With a background in education and a passion for helping others, Kate pursued a career in speech language pathology. She has extensive experience in various areas, including early intervention, pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, aphasia, and dementia. Kate has a special interest in pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, as well as aphasia. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time with her family, taking her dog, Bubby, for walks, and exploring the outdoors.

Priscilla Martinez, M.S., CF-SLP

Priscilla received her bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders at Sacramento State University in 2019 as well completing her Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) program in 2019. She graduated with her Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology at CSU Monterey Bay in December of 2023. Through her field work experience she has had the opportunity to work in schools, private practices and acute care specializing in dysphagia, cognition, aphasia, pediatric feeding disorders and pediatric language. Outside of work, she enjoys working out, taking her dog to the beach and traveling back home to Sacramento to visit family. She is beyond grateful to have the opportunity to work for CCLLC and continue her passion for speech therapy.

Paulina Medina, M.S., CF-SLP

Paulina is a Monterey County native who received her master's degree in Speech Language Pathology with the honor of magna cum laude from San Jose State University. She is fluent in Spanish and has a passion for working with multicultural and bilingual individuals. Through her field work experience she has had the opportunity to work in schools and in clinics specializing in aphasia, fluency, social pragmatics, and pediatric language. She also had the privilege of completing a student externship at CCLLC under the guidance of Jennifer D'Attilio and Leah Kohl, where she evaluated and treated a diverse population of patients with varying needs. In her free time, Paulina enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with her dog, Walter

Isabel Nieto, M.S., CF-SLP

Isabel is a Spanish-English bilingual who grew up in the Salinas Valley. She received a M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from California State University, Monterey Bay. She has experience working with bilingual patients in fluency, AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), articulation, cognition, receptive and expressive language. She enjoys incorporating neurodiverse affirming approaches through play-based therapy and aims to become a specialist in AAC and feeding/swallowing throughout the lifespan. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, baking, swimming, and spending time with her family. 

Bianca Gomez

Front Office Coordinator

Bianca grew up in Monterey County and is currently obtaining her associate degree in Psychology. She brings knowledge in medical front office scheduling, customer service and patient care to our team. She is hard-working and empathetic, and strives to make our office a comfortable environment for our patients and their families. With experience in making people feel welcomed, she will always aim to put a smile on your face.

Krystal Luna

Krystal is originally from Yuma, Arizona and has lived on the Central Coast for 16 years. She comes to the CCLLC team with eight years of experience in front office operations and billing. She holds an associate's degree in sociology and is a mother of three, which she credits for her empathic and compassionate approach to working with families and their insurance companies. She shares CCLLC's patient-centered philosophy and aims to provide excellent service to her community. Krystal is one of our bilingual team members, and enjoys being a sports mom in her free time. 

Jamie Oler

Revenue Cycle Manager

Jamie is the revenue cycle manager at Central Coast Language and Learning Center. She comes to us from an allied healthcare office and has several years of experience in billing, coding and management. She is currently earning her bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration and Management. Jamie is conscious and engaged in her work and aims to provide top-notch administrative support to our clinicians and families. Establishing relationships with our families is paramount as Jamie has a patient-centered philosophy and is focused on exceeding expectations by bringing elements of concierge care to the front office.

Amelia Tipp

Authorization Coordinator

Amelia is currently going to school and taking accounting class in the Sacramento area. While she was enrolled in her high school's leadership program, she gained valuable experience working with children through visiting an elementary school and helping first-graders improve their reading and writing skills. Amelia currently resides in Lincoln, Calif. but enjoys traveling. In her free time, she loves to go on adventures with her friends and family as well as her dog, Maggie. She is excited for opportunity to work as CCLLC's authorization coordinator.

Kimberly Villegas

Front Office Coordinator

Kim grew up in the Monterey Peninsula and is a graduate of Santa Catalina School. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology from University of the Pacific, where she also enjoyed being a part of the cross country and track teams. She is currently a graduate student at Palo Alto University, working toward her master's degree in counseling. She is passionate about helping others receive the services they need. With previous customer service/front desk experience, she strives to make patients feel welcomed and at ease when visiting CCLLC.
